REQUIREMENTS FOR ELIGIBILITY FOR REGISTRATION

At present the NLRPF CIF / IFC program recognizes a variety of applicant categories for registration. All applicants must be of the age of majority and tender the fees and dues as prescribed in the CIF / IFC Newfoundland and Labrador Section by-laws.

CATEGORY 1

An applicant who is a recent graduate of a baccalaureate degree program accredited by the Canadian Forestry Accreditation Board (CFAB) is required to:

  • have a minimum of two years of experience as a professional forestry practitioner in Newfoundland and Labrador subsequent to graduation
  • obtain the sponsorship of RPF deemed to be in good standing in the NLRPF CIF / IFC program
  • pass examinations as may be prescribed by the NLRPF CIF / IFC respecting the practice of professional forestry in the province.

CATEGORY 2

An applicant who graduated from a recognized forestry degree program prior to the establishment of the CFAB is required to:

  • have worked as a professional forestry practitioner in the two years prior to application
  • obtain the sponsorship of an RPF deemed to be in good standing in the NLRPF CIF / IFC program
  • pass examinations as may be prescribed by the NLRPF CIF / IFC respecting the practice of professional forestry on the province

CATEGORY 3

An applicant who is a recent graduate of a baccalaureate degree program that is not accredited by the CFAB, but whose curriculum has been evaluated against the core subject areas as outlined in the CFAB standards is required to:

  • have a minimum of four year of experience as a professional forestry practitioner in Newfoundland and Labrador subsequent to graduation
  • obtain the sponsorship of an RPF deemed to be in good standing in the NLRPF CIF / IFC program
  • pass examinations as may be prescribed by the NLRPF CIF / IFC in core subject areas as set forth in the CFAB Standards
  • pass examinations as may be prescribed by the NLRPF CIF / IFC respecting the practice of professional forestry in the province

CATEGORY 4

An applicant who is a graduate of a technical or technology program from a recognized school, college, or university whose curriculum has been evaluated against the core subject areas as outlined in the CFAB standards is required to:

  • have a minimum of seven years of experience as professional forestry practitioner in Newfoundland and Labrador
  • present a letter from his/her employer stating that he/she is currently employed in a position which would normally require that position to be filled by a professional forestry practitioner
  • obtain the sponsorship of an RPF deemed to be in good standing in the NLRPF CIF / IFC program
  • pass examinations as may be prescribed by the NLRPF CIF / IFC in core subject areas as set forth in the CFAB standards
  • pass examinations as may be prescribed by the NLRPF CIF / IFC respecting the practice of professional forestry in the province

CATEGORY 5

An applicant who may not be a resident of Newfoundland and Labrador but who is employed as a professional forestry practitioner in Newfoundland and Labrador is required to:

  • show proof of membership in good standing of an association of professional foresters that in the opinion of the NLRPF CIF / IFC is similarly constituted and has similar membership requirements to the NLRPF CIF / IFC
  • pass examinations as may be prescribed by the NLRPF CIF / IFC respecting the practice of professional forestry in the province. (Note: the applicant may be granted a temporary/conditional registration until such time as identified shortfalls are met.)

CATEGORY 6

An applicant who is not a resident of Newfoundland and Labrador but who is employed as a professional forestry practitioner in a province, territory, state or country in which there is no similarly constituted professional foresters association is required to

  • demonstrate proof of qualifications to practice as professional forestry practitioner
  • pass examinations as may be prescribed by the NLRPF CIF / IFC in core subject areas as set forth in the CFAB standards
  • pass examinations as may be prescribed by the NLRPF CIF / IFC respecting the practice of professional forestry in the province
