The
Newfoundland and Labrador Registered
Professional Forester Program (NLRPF)
is a service administered by the
Newfoundland and Labrador section of
the Canadian Institute of Forestry /
Institut forestier du Canada both to
the forestry profession and the public
within this province. The program
provides a source of professional
development and advice for forestry
practitioners in addition to
identification of forestry
professionals for a variety of land
management activities. The
registration process constitutes a
recognition by the CIF / IFC that an
RPF in the Province of Newfoundland
and Labrador meets and adheres to,
certain minimum academic preparation,
professional experience, continuing
education and professional standards.
The
NLRPF program is voluntary,
non-governmental and open to qualified
CIF members. In obtaining this
professional status the registered
Professional Forester agrees: to abide
by current RPF requirements and
procedures for registration; to
maintain continued professional
development; and to conduct all
forestry practices in a responsible,
professional manner consistent with
federal and provincial statutes
concerning environmental protection
and forest management as well as the
CIF Code of Ethics.
The
Primary objectives for the CIF
implementation of this program are:
(1) To Ensure high standards of
practice by members in the
professional practice of forestry with
the ultimate goal of maintaining the
long term health of Newfoundland's
forest ecosystem.
(2) To promote and encourage
professional development of members.
(3) To enhance the visibility
of the profession, and assure the
public of the knowledge, skill,
proficiency and competency of forestry
professionals who are members.
(4) To promote all such matters
and activities that will advance the
interests of forestry professionals in
the practice of forestry in
conjunction with protecting the public
interest of all the people of
Newfoundland and Labrador.
